An Atlanta police officer was on administrative leave Monday while APD investigates the shooting of an off-duty firefighter during an incident in northeast Atlanta.

The firefighter was wounded in the shoulder during an incident Sunday evening where a man was allegedly pointing a gun at neighbors.

“That escalated into the subject that had the gun being shot by Atlanta police,” Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci told Channel 2 Action News.

“At this time, we are not releasing additional information regarding last night’s shooting,” said Atlanta Police spokesman Gregory Lyon. “Our homicide unit is conducting a thorough investigation into what transpired between the responding police officer and the firefighter who was shot, including the events that prompted the initial 911 call. Nothing further will be released until investigators have been able to adequately process and verify the information they’ve received regarding the shooting.”
