WILCOX (HURLBURT WISE), Lucille

89, of Roswell, Georgia, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend and self-proclaimed, "T.O.B." (Tough Old Broad!), died October 16, 2021.

Born November 19, 1931 to Col. Edward L. Hurlburt III and Lucille Smith Hurlburt in Memphis, TN. Upon graduation from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide), Lucille married Air Force fighter pilot Major James C. Wise, Jr. Together they built a life with their three daughters that included living in France, Nevada, Nebraska, Mississippi, Florida and Rhode Island before settling in Largo, Florida. In December of 1965, Lucille lost her husband when Maj. Wise's aircraft was shot down, an early casualty of the Vietnam War.

In 1976, Lucille married retired Air Force pilot Lt Col Roland "Ron" M Wilcox and joined him at Largo World Travel, where she enjoyed both her co-workers and customers. After Ron's death in 1987, Lucille moved to Marietta, Georgia to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.

Once settled in Marietta, Lucille made countless friends while working at the East Cobb YMCA (affectionately nicknamed the "Y Hugger") and dancing with the "Timeless Tappers" and YMCA "Kickers". Smart, funny and endearing, Lucille was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her.

Left to cherish her love and memory are daughters Catherine Minteer (Mark), Vicki Corum DeMeza (David), and Jamie Allen (Steve); grandchildren Kelly Gilliam (Scott), Greg Allen (Caitlin), Jennifer Shugh (Brett), Evan Minteer (Adair) and Emily Rucco (Dom); great-grandchildren; and siblings Edward L. Hurlburt IV (Sharon) and Lynne Hayes (Danny) and their families.

Special thanks to the kind staff at Historic Roswell Place who treated Lucille like family, to "her boyfriend Luke," the visiting Comfort Dog and volunteers, and to Wellstar Community Hospice for their tender care in her final months and days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association, Trinity Church Savannah, Attn: Luke, or the American Red Cross. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
