SOBEL, Judith

Judith Carol Sobel passed on October 29, 2021 of natural causes after living a life that celebrated family, teaching, learning, music, and cooking. Born to Pinkus and Rosalyn Weinshenker in 1939 in Brooklyn, Judy was married to Stan Sobel for sixty years and raised three sons. Her Passover meals were legendary. Judy earned a B.A. (at 19) and M.S. from Brooklyn College and an ED.S. in Special Education from Georgia State. She taught at Holcomb Bridge for 18 years and was Fulton County Teacher of the Year. She was Assistant Director at the Epstein School (1976-82) and led an initiative to expand Head Start (1973-74). Judy was passionate about promoting awareness of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare genetic disease. She is survived by husband Stan; children Peter, Michael and Michelle, and Nathaniel (Ted) and Susan; grandchildren Elizabeth, Abigail, Leo and Desi; and her brother Ned and his wife Gail.
