Edward (Ed) Andrew Shields passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 10, 2021, at his home in Sugarloaf Key, Florida.
Ed was born August 17, 1950, in Hornell, New York, the son of Edgar and Virginia (Carter) Shields.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents. Ed is survived by his wife, Catherine (Mihelarakis) Shields, sisters; Paula (Tim) Clark, and Donna Sullivan, children; Jeremy (Andrea) Shields, Ashley Shields, Michael Steven (Christine) Porter, Carli (Mark) Guanciale, grandchildren; Ryan Kimmett, Erin Odom, Jacob Shields, Andrew and Liam Shields, Domenic Guanciale, Anna Grice, Titus Porter, and six great-grandchildren.
Ed graduated from Heath High School, class of 1968. Following high school, Ed served in the Air Force as a B52 Mechanic in Thailand during the Vietnam War. After the war, Ed began working in the flooring industry, later becoming the CEO for Redi Floors (now Real Floors) in Atlanta, Georgia. Ed retired several years ago and moved to Sugarloaf Key, Florida with his loving wife, Cathy.
Ed had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, important and part of his extended family. His love and passion for life and the treasures that it holds had a positive impact on those that were fortunate enough to know him, if even for a moment in time. Ed loved his country, deep sea fishing, and the Georgia Bulldogs. Ed was a member of the VFW Post No. 3911.
