SANTACROCE, Dante Patrick
Dante Patrick Santacroce, longtime Atlanta resident, passed away on December 29 in San Diego, CA of pneumonia at the age of 91. Dante was born in New York City in 1929 and came to Atlanta in 1949 to attend Georgia Tech and study Architecture. At Georgia Tech, he joined DramaTech, the school theater, and there he met his future wife Mary Nell Ivey, who was the Director of DramaTech. After graduating, Dante served a stint in the army, and then studied Architecture in Milan, Italy for a year. In 1957 Mary Nell's first marriage to Hugh Ivey ended, and Dante asked her to come to Italy and marry him. After a 3-month European honeymoon on a scooter, Dante and Mary Nell returned to Atlanta to live together in Ansley Park for the next 42 years, until Mary Nell's death in 1999. As an architect, Dante worked for several companies over the years, most notable being John Portman & Associates, as well as for the GA Power Company. In addition to being an architect, Dante was an accomplished artist. He was a long-time member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Druid Hills, and director of the Underground Theatre there for 44 years. Dante is survived by his son Eric Santacroce, his grandson Evan Santacroce, stepchildren Dana and John Ivey, his brother Alex Santacroce, sister Barbara Spector, two nieces and two nephews.
