JONES, Hilliard Dekalb
Hilliard DeKalb Jones died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Buddy was born in Atlanta, GA on August 1, 1934, the son of Frances Jolly Jones and Dr. Mallory Carpenter Jones. He attended Murphy High School and Grady High School where he played football; he then graduated from North Fulton High School. He received a BA in Journalism from the University of Georgia and a BS in Education from Georgia State University. He taught English at Grady High School and Bass High School, both in Atlanta. He then began his insurance career at John Hancock Life Insurance Company, and several years later started his own financial planning company.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Willorene Ferguson Jones, his son, Dr. Christopher Mallory Jones of Savannah, GA and his daughter, Katrina Jones Eller (Biff) of Raleigh, NC. His beloved grandchildren are Sam and George Eller, and Mallory and Anna Kate Jones. He was a special uncle to Hilary Franey, Price Branch, and Cookie Riendeau.
He was an avid tennis player and golfer. He was a loyal Georgia Bulldog and loved movies and the arts. Willa called him her Go Guy because he was always ready for the next adventure. He was a member of Northside United Methodist Church and the Northside Bible Class. An inurnment service will be held Thursday, October 28 at 2:00 PM at Northside UMC, followed by a reception for family and friends at the home.
