Ambassador John F. Hicks, Sr., age 71, of Atlanta, GA passed August 28, 2021. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Morehouse College Danforth Chapel, 830 Westview Drive SW, Atlanta, GA 30314. Ambassador John Frederick Hicks Sr., born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on September 25, 1949 graduated from Dillard High School in 1967, and graduated with honors from Morehouse College in May of 1971 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.
John married his wife of fifty years Jacqueline Murphy Hicks (Jackie) on June 5, 1971. Together they have two children and four grandchildren. Much of their married life was spent in Southern Africa where John served as a Foreign Service Officer. John's final Government appointment was to Eritrea as the US Ambassador. In 1997 John returned to the US and took a position at Georgia State University as the Assistant Provost for International Affairs, from which he retired in 2011.
Appreciation is expressed for all of the love and support received from friends and family during this difficult time.
