ABBOTT, John Lewis
John Lewis Abbott, 93, of Stockbridge, GA passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. He was born December 22, 1927, in Lawrenceville, Virginia to George and Clara Abbott. His family moved to Atlanta when he was 14, where he attended Joe Brown Jr. High and Tech High School. In 1944, John met the love of his life, Elynor Carol Cooke. After serving in the U.S. Army, he and Carol married in 1948. John graduated from Emory University in 1951 and began his career in banking at the First National Bank of Atlanta (now Wells Fargo). He retired as a Sr. Vice-President in 1986.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Abbott, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 72 years, Carol Abbott; son, Craig (Karen) Abbott of Sarasota, FL; daughter, Kathy (Willie) Brown of Bethlehem, GA; daughter, Laura (Mike) Wigington of McDonough, GA; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way.
Due to COVID-19 concerns a private memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 10th, 2021 at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Betsy Turner officiating. The service will be live streamed and may be viewed at www.cannonclevelandfunerals.com/obituary/john-abbott
