No injuries were reported in a two-alarm fire that damaged an art studio in a northwest Atlanta industrial park late Thursday morning.
The fire broke out before 10 a.m. in a “resin room” at Deljou Art Group in the 1600 block of Huber Street, according to Atlanta fire Assistant Chief Chris Wessels.
Wessels said the flames were contained to the room, and caused minimal fire damage, but he described the smoke and water damage to the 200 by 300 foot building as “moderate.”
He said a second alarm was turned in because “we wanted to make sure we had enough resources in case the fire did get away from us.”
Sonja Rodewald, a spokeswoman for Deljou Art Group, said the facility off Chattahoochee Avenue is a working art studio that provides art work, frames and mirrors to interior designers and architectural firms.
“We have artists from all over the world that work here,” Rodewald told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She said the studio, which has been in business for more than 30 years, also produces and sells decorative pieces to high end hotels.
Rodewald said the room where the fire started is used to apply a coating onto the art work.
“We’re glad that all the people are okay,” she said. “But we’re also very concerned about our art work.”
