North Fulton is getting a new nonprofit aimed at dealing with mental health and drug and alcohol addiction issues in the community.

The Hub Family Resource Center opens its doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in donated space at 11075 State Bridge Road.

Executive Director Remco Brommet said his former job as citizens advocate for the city of Johns Creek made him realize the need for an information clearinghouse aimed at connecting those needing community resources with helpful agencies. He said the Hub will provide a place for residents to meet with resource specialists to direct them to service providers in the law enforcement, legal and mental wellness and addiction help communities.

Brommet said there's a special need to offer help for prescription drug and heroin abusers, citing a spike in heroin overdoses and suicides.

Longer-range plans are for the Hub to offer parenting classes and various support groups. He said the agency will get funding from a variety of sources, ranging from donations and program fees to grants.
