A Newton County teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old male student, police said Thursday.
Victoria Tatum, 24, of Decatur, has been charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, and enticing a child, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said. All of the charges are felonies.
A complaint was made to the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday and the arrest warrant was issued Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office said. Tatum was arrested at Newton County High School and booked in to jail at 1:10 p.m., records showed.
“Per abuse protocol, a forensic interview was conducted and a disclosure was made that inappropriate contact occurred more than once,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “At this time, the investigation revealed that the contact began less than a month ago. Probable cause was obtained to apply for an arrest warrant.”
Tatum is a math teacher at Newton High School, according to the school’s website. This is her first year teaching at the school, according to her Facebook page.
She was being held without bond Thursday afternoon.
