Roswell will see the debut of a new elementary school facility when the Fulton County Schools begin the 2015-2016 school year Aug. 10.

What's been called the "Highway 9 Elementary School" at 1201 Alpharetta St. is being used as a one-year replacement campus for Esther Jackson Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school year. Esther Jackson is being rebuilt at its current location at 1400 Martin Road and will reopen in the fall of 2016. The Highway 9 site will then get a new name, student body and identity, with school attendance boundaries being redrawn.

Officials have said the $27.7 million Highway 9 campus will have roughly 600 students this year at Jackson, and up to 850 next year. The school features a more linear design that takes up a smaller footprint because of multilevel construction. The district said it's the first time the design has been used in North Fulton, although it has been utilized in Sandy Springs and South Fulton.
