According to the Trentonian, a kindergarten teacher at the International Academy of Trenton Charter School noticed Monday that one of her students was holding a white packet. She originally thought it was candy, but after taking the packet away from the child, she found that it contained the deadly drug. The teacher later searched the boy's lunchbox and discovered 29 more packets of heroin, police said.
The school released the following statement about the incident on its Facebook page:
"IAT is following the procedures specified by the law and is working closely with local authorities to handle this matter," the post said. "IAT is fully committed to providing a safe, healthy environment in which all our students can be engaged, high-achieving learners and positive role models."
