An 8-year-old boy who was diagnosed last year with a rare form of brain cancer is cancer-free after undergoing treatment at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
"I feel amazing now,'' Cameron Scott told the "Today" show. "I feel like I've been through everything."
Doctors discovered that Cameron had a "medulloblastoma that soon spread to his spine in what was considered high-risk, stage 4 cancer" after his family took him to a hospital last year following a fall, according to "Today."
"It was like an out-of-body experience,'' Tamika Scott, Cameron's mother, told "Today."
Cameron underwent four hours of surgery to remove the tumors before he was transferred to St. Jude.
"The hospital has pioneered gene sequencing of Cameron's cancer, which allowed them to prescribe a highly targeted treatment. They had discovered it was not a single disease, but four different types," according to "Today."
Cameron went through six months of chemotherapy and radiation – all covered by St. Jude – before being declared cancer-free.
