No wrong way to celebrate National Pig Day

Piglet. Babe. Wilbur.

Spare ribs. Pork chops. Bacon.

No matter how you wish to honor the pig, March 1 marks National Pig Day.

Mary Lynne Rave and her sister Ellen Stanley started honoring swine in 1972 "to accord to the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and domesticated animals," according to The Associated Press.

They served pink pig punch, pork delicacies and tied pink ribbon pigtails around trees to honor the animal.

In more recent years, the porcine day is celebrated with events at museums and zoos, adoption events and even a parade.

Others may choose another approach. Hosting cookouts, pig roasts and barbecues.
