A 22-year-old man driving a Volkswagen rear-ended a 41-year-old driver of a BMW, WGN reported.

The man in the BMW got out, checked the damage, then went back to his car to get his phone. Police said, the Volkswagen driver walked over with a gun to the BMW driver and pushed him into the car, WGN reported.

The driver of the BMW grabbed his gun and shot the other man in the head, WGN reported.

Neither men have been identified.

It is unclear if charges will be filed against the surviving man, who has no criminal history and a valid concealed weapon permit, the Chicago Tribune reported.

"Detectives still have not made a determination as to whether charges are warranted,'' police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Chicago Tribune. "We have not found a link between the 41-year-old Chicago man and the offender, but we're certainly looking at that to make sure that nothing could have precipitated this."
