A K-9 named Wix overeheated and died in a squad car because the air conditioning malfunctioned Wednesday, deputies said.
The 3-year-old Belgian Malinois was left in the car with the air conditioning on, but when his handler checked on him around 12:30 p.m., the dog was unresponsive and the air conditioning was not working.
Wix joined the Brown County Sheriff’s Office in April 2014.
"Wix and his partner Deputy Lemberger were on special assignment at the PGA Championship in Kohler, Wisconsin," according to the Sheriff's Department.
