A woman is lucky to be alive after an air conditioner being removed from a high-rise apartment building in New York City fell and struck her in the head.

Pinkerton suffered a gaping leg wound and abrasions on her arm. The leg wound required 20 stitches, according to this report.

New York
magazine reports that the victim, Chloe Pinkerton, 28, said that her leg looked "like hamburger meat, it was disgusting."

The air conditioner was being removed from an apartment on the sixth floor when the person handling it lost control. The air conditioner ended up falling in between Pinkerton and her boyfriend.

New York magazine reports that despite the many window air conditioner units in buildings across the city, deaths caused by falling air conditioners are rare.
