It's far from Nancy Drew, but one woman used some 21st century sleuthing and a plea on social media to learn the identity of the enigmatic child who had been petting her dog in the garage.

After reviewing home security footage Hollie Mallet noticed every so often a boy would stop by, walk into the garage, play with their dog Dutchess then quickly run run back to his bicycle and ride away.

She wanted to find out who the boy was to let him know that he is welcome to stay and play with the black Labrador, who loves the attention.

So Mallet posted a snippet of the security footage on Facebook May 30 hoping that in the small town some of her friends would know who the boy is.

It didn't take long to find out that the boy is Ginger Breaux's son Josh.

"Josh talks about your dog all the time! Every time we pass he looks to see if she was sitting where he could see her. Just didn't know he was doing things like this," Breaux posted in a reply to Mallet's video. "Last night when I first saw it, I was torn as a momma being happy and upset because he knows he shouldn't be on someone's property, but I wake up this morning more happy that he just absolutely adores dogs so much."

The Breaux's dog Bella died recently and the family has not had the time to take on the responsibility of raising a new puppy, Ginger posted.

"Things have been busy and Josh is active with after school activities so we have not jumped back into taking on the responsibility of starting all over again with a new pup quite yet," she wrote. "It will happen though."

Ultimately Josh, 9, was able to get a play date with Dutchess where he ended up taking some selfies with the dog.

"Every day since, he's been coming back and he's been playing with her and it's so fun to check the video at the end of the day to watch them," Mallet told ABC News. "He's the sweetest little boy. They both get a friend."
