A judge in North Carolina on Friday found a woman guilty of animal cruelty after she put a picture on Facebook of her dog with duct tape around its mouth.
Katharine Lemansky, 45, appeared in a Wake County courtroom Friday for posting the picture in November under the name Katie Brown, of South Daytona, Florida.
The photo was captioned: "This is what happens when you don't shut up!!!" It sparked outrage from animal lovers nationwide.
Lemansky admitted to putting duct tape on the mouth of her chocolate Labrador, named Brown. She said she wanted to stop the dog from barking.
According to the Associated Press, an animal control officer testified Friday that Lemansky admitted to taping the dog's mouth and said it was a joke.
Lemansky’s 60-day jail sentence was suspended to a year of supervised probation.
She was in Cary, North Carolina, when the photo was taken but previously lived in South Daytona.
