It wasn't a problem until Saturday morning.  According to Fox 23 in Tulsa, that's when she says she ordered a taxi from Yellow Checkered Cabs.

Newton says the driver arrived to pick her up in a van, but wouldn’t even let her inside of the vehicle.

"He said that I was too fat to get inside of his van...he was sending a car to come get me,” Newton says.

She says another car showed up a few minutes later.

"He said no discrimination. You need a little car... and then drove off, and left me there," she claims.

Newton says this is the first time she’s been refused service because of her size.

"I don't want it to ever happen to anyone else to my size, or bigger than my size... that's a real insult," she says.

Rod Saleh, manager of Yellow Checkered Cabs says he spoke with the driver in question.

"He did not refuse her [a] ride," Saleh says.  "He was just trying to accommodate her.”

Saleh said drivers work as independent contractors and can make decisions based on what they believe is the best situation for customers.

Saleh says the driver denied calling Newton fat.  He says it was more of a misunderstanding than an insult.

"We apologize if we caused her any embarrassment or delay for the time,” Saleh says.

Newton, says the company has lost a customer forever.

“He didn’t give me the opportunity to see if I could get in there," she says. "He judged me right then and there. God bless him is all I can say.”
