A University of North Texas student was fatally shot Sunday by campus police.
Ryan McMillan, whose 21st birthday was Saturday, was smashing car windows with an ax at a parking garage a couple of blocks from the Denton campus, according to The Dallas Morning News.

"This is a tragic event that saddens us as a university community," university President Neal Smatresk, said in a release.
McMillan advanced toward the officer, who fired multiple shots in response, according to The Dallas Morning News.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was placed on paid administrative leave, according to The Dallas Morning News. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
