Who issued the warnings?  The Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center issued the joint intelligence bulletin to local law enforcement agencies.

Are there specific targets? According to CNN, the bulletin did not refer to any known terrorist attacks planned on American soil. However, the recent terrorist attacks at a Tunisia beach resort, a decapitation at a U.S.-owned factory in France and a bombing of a mosque in Kuwait have authorities concerned.

What steps are being taken to prevent attacks? Law enforcement agencies across the country will be on high alert for any suspicious activities, especially at events drawing large crowds of people, like firework displays. There will likely be heightened security at national monuments.

What can you do to help? Be vigilant when attending public events over the holiday weekend and immediately inform law enforcement of any suspicious people or activities.
