While this will be President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address, it is not the first time he has addressed a joint session of Congress. Trump spoke before Congress last February.

When is the speech: Tuesday, Jan. 30

What time: 9 p.m. ET

What channel: The speech will be carried live on all the major cable and news networks.

Where is it taking place: President Trump will deliver the speech from the floor of the House chambers in the U.S. Capitol. Seated behind the president during the speech are Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker Paul Ryan.

What is the State of the Union? Article II, Section 3, Clause 1 of the Constitution says, the president "shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." The speech was first called the Annual Message, then in the 1940s, the address became known as the "state of the union." Since 1947, the speech has been known as the "State of the Union Address."

Georgia connections

U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson's office said the Republican's guest will be Dunwoody jeweler and former 6th Congressional District candidate Bruce LeVell, who headed Trump's diversity coalition. Read more.
