A West Virginia man who said he had been bitten by a snake showed the dead copperhead to the state's Division of Natural Resources police, WCHS reported.
The man, from Nicholas County, met with DNR officers in late June after telling them he had killed a snake, the television station reported.
According to DNR officials, the man brought the dead snake in a plastic bag. He also brought leather gloves and a snakeskin that had been shed, WCHS reported.
The man told officials he had been bitten when he reached under the couch at his home, the television station reported. He said he became ill for several days and was running a high fever, with swelling around the bite mark, WCHS reported.
DNR officials advised the man to seek medical attention, the television station reported.
