A wayward alligator gave police in Slidell, Louisiana, the run-around Thursday after it was spotted near Slidell High School.
As officers tried to corner the gator, it managed to get away and hide under a school bus.
Police kept the public informed through posts on social media.
“We are currently in negotiations with the gator and trying to get him to come out peacefully,” Slidell police joked on Twitter.
Police said they spent some time negotiating with the animal in hopes of a peaceful surrender, and eventually they got lucky.
“The alligator is in custody!” police said after about 90 minutes.
With help from a wildlife expert, officers were able to capture the alligator without injury to police or the animal.
Officers concluded on Twitter, “For now, he will be safely released to a new home outside of the city and back in his natural habitat...the swamp!”
