People on social media are giving police officers a big shout out for going above and beyond for children.

Gainesville police posted pictures on Facebook of an officer playing a pickup basketball game. Several officers noticed someone ripped down the basketball nets at a park on Atlanta Street.

So they used their own money to buy new ones and played some hoops.

One of the officers, Cpl. Drew Reed, then treated the children to ice cream and popsicles.

Gainesville police say the actions prove “the dedication our officers have for the communities they serve.”
