Miami police officers are being praised for the extra steps they took to make a woman's birthday special.
Karlita Chester says her daughter, Kourtney, traveled to south Florida last month to celebrate her 21st birthday.
Kourtney was on her way to dinner with friends when they were attacked and robbed while walking down the street early that evening. Kourtney says the man grabbed her cellphone and then hit her across the face with it.
Surveillance video caught the entire incident and within two hours, Miami Beach police officers caught the suspect, whom they described as a career criminal.
Officers called Kourtney, who was able to positively identify the man. He was arrested and charged with strong armed robbery.
Once the officers completed their reports, they didn’t get into their cars and leave the scene. Instead, they gathered around their cars and sang to the birthday girl.

"I was not expecting it at all," Kourtney said about the officers' actions. "I was shocked. I was under the impression that I was going to go identify the guy and that was it. Next thing I know we walked over and they had the candle and the cupcake and they started singing. It was just so thoughtful."

In a video taken of the special moment, Kourtney hugs the officers as they present her with a card and cupcake (complete with trick candles that led to quite a few laughs).

"They really made it one to remember. I was so thankful to all of them," she said.

Chester said with all the bad news about officers, she just had to share this amazing experience.

“The officers were so kind, that they took the time out of their busy day to gather and sing 'Happy Birthday' to my daughter in efforts to make her birthday a very memorable day, outside of the crime that was committed against her,” Chester said about the moment.
