An Alabama man planned an unusual proposal for his girlfriend that he knew she would never expect.

"She knows my every move. I can never surprise her," Daiwon McPherson told AL.com after proposing to his girlfriend of five years on Friday.

McPherson, 33, spent days setting up the surprise proposal, in which he and his friends staged a fake arrest with the help of the Mobile Police Department.

McPherson's plan began when he intentionally upset his girlfriend, 28-year-old Shawna Blackmon, and then told her he would take her on a date Friday night to make up for it.

"She always told me when I proposed to make sure she looked nice. She (had just gotten) her hair done (and) her nails done," McPherson told AL.com.

But McPherson didn't show up for the couple's date, and he didn't answer Blackmon's texts or calls.

Eventually, one of McPherson's friends called Blackmon and told her that he was in trouble. The friend, a member of McPherson's biker community, told Blackmon that he was being chased on his motorcycle by police and that he had a gun.
