Parts of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina have been preparing for effects of Hurricane Matthew since the beginning of the week.

Hurricane Matthew is the first Category 5 Atlantic hurricane since Hurricane Felix in 2007.

City officials suggested evacuations in the southern states bracing for impact.
