The family of gun instructor Charles Vacca, who died when an Uzi handled by a 9-year-old kicked back and killed him, has released a heartfelt video message through their attorney.
"We don't know your name, but we are connected by this tragedy," their statement begins.
"Our dad wasn't just an instructor," one of the girls says. "He was funny, strong, a protector, a hero and our friend. He was a good man."
The family released the message for closure and to let the 9-year-old girl know they sympathize with her.
Their father's death adds another layer to an ongoing national discussion about gun laws and culture in America.
Charles Vacca's kids are aged 11, 14, 15 and 19, according to ABC News.
