According to reports, the teacher was upset that students were throwing things.

Pittsburgh Public Schools Public Information Officer Ebony Pugh said the following in a statement: "A Pittsburgh Westinghouse teacher was sent home Tuesday after reports that he threw a chair in a classroom. According to reports, students were throwing food. The teacher apparently lost his temper and threw the chair. The teacher was sent home with pay."
