With a quick start, USA defeated Japan to win the Women’s World Cup title Sunday at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia.

USA scored four goals in the first 16 minutes, with Carli Lloyd getting a hat trick, to go on to a 5-2 final victory.

This is the third World Cup final win for the USA Team.

When the USA scored a goal in the third minute, it was the first time Japan trailed in World Cup play.

Lloyd scored three goals before the first 16 minutes were played. Lauren Holiday also chipped in a goal.

USA, known for its staunch defense, gave up its first goal in World Cup play. Yuki Ogimi scored in the 27th minute for Japan. USA had previously shut out the Columbia and Germany teams.

After Julie Johnston scored an own goal that counted for Japan, Tobin Heath quickly scored, giving USA a 5-2 lead.
