Tom Cruise has been teasing the sequel to 1986's "Top Gun" for a while, and now fans can finally get a glimpse.

Paramount Pictures has released the first official trailer for "Top Gun: Maverick," and it shows Cruise as his character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

The film takes place more than 30 years after the original. Maverick is mentoring a new generation of U.S. Navy fighter pilots, including Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Goose, who was Maverick's best friend. Bradley will be played by Miles Teller. Val Kilmer is reprising his role as Iceman.

Jon Hamm, who also stars in the film, said new technology has upped the production in the sequel. While on the red carpet at the world premiere of Amazon's "Good Omens," he told Collider that fans of the first movie are in for a treat.

“It’s a very strange experience, but it’s been a wonderful experience as well. It’s basically getting the whole team back together. Unfortunately, (original director) Tony Scott is unavailable, but they’ve achieved a very similar vibe to the first one," he said. "I think it’s gonna be, for the people who love the first movie, I think it’s gonna be very interesting to watch. It very much takes the story in a different direction. But I think for the new fans it’,s gonna be something very cool, too. I’ve seen some of the footage, it is out of this world.

“They’re using some technology on this that is never before seen. We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it’s incredibly high-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs.”

"Top Gun: Maverick" is set to be released June 26, 2020. Watch the trailer below.
