The email was sent Thursday night, shortly before 8 p.m., and had nothing but emojis — seemingly threatening ones, including a devil, bombs, knives ands guns. It also contained more innocent-looking emojis for cows, sheep and cats, plus a few smiley faces and at least one frowning face.

The district said it did not suspect the child of making actual threats. But in an apparent abundance of caution, school resource officers were present at both schools Friday and parents volunteered to stand guard outside Sunset Park.
