Look, they're everywhere. We might as well learn a little more about them.

1. They belong to the class Blattaria, which means "to shun the light," and they live in nearly every part of the world.

2. There are close to 4,000 known species, with the highest population in the tropics.

3. Since they have an open circulatory system, they can live up to a week without their heads. But dehydration is what kills them, since they have no way of drinking water.

4. Female cockroaches only mate once in a lifetime, but they remain fertile and reproduce the rest of their lives without the help of a male.

5. Although some common species do fly, they only make up a small percentage of the cockroach population.
