Gunman Omar Mateen, 29, opened fire at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, early Sunday, leaving at least 49 people dead and 53 wounded before he was killed in a shootout with SWAT team members.

1. Orlando shooter was gay, former classmate says: A former classmate of Mateen's 2006 Indian River Community College police academy class said he believed Mateen was gay, saying Mateen once asked him out, The Palm Beach Post reports. "We went to a few gay bars with him, and I was not out at the time, so I declined his offer," the former classmate said. The Los Angeles Times reported that Mateen attended the Pulse nightclub possibly as many as a dozen times before the rampage. Read the story here.

2. Sources: Arrest to be made soon of alleged accomplice in Pulse mass shooting: Law enforcement officers could make an arrest in the next few days of someone who allegedly helped the Orlando gunman carry out the mass shooting inside Pulse nightclub that killed 49 people this weekend, sources told WFTV on Monday. 5. Thousands of mourners pay tribute to shooting victims at emotional vigil in Orlando: A vigil was held outside Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Monday in honor of the victims who died in the nightclub mass shooting on Sunday. Thousands gathered holding signs and candles as the names of the victims were read aloud. The owners of Pulse nightclub said, "We are not leaving. We are here to stay.
