What to know now:
1. Winter storm: The storm is over, now the clean-up starts as portions of the country begin to dig out from 30-plus inches of snow over the weekend. Government offices in Washington D.C. will remain closed Monday, but the snow won't keep New York City school kids home. Flights are still being canceled in some spots. According to Flightaware more than 1,300 flights scheduled for Monday are canceled.
2. Super Bowl teams set: The Broncos and the Panthers are on their way to Super Bowl 50 after wins Sunday in the AFC and NFC championship games. Peyton Manning led Denver to a 20-18 win over the New England Patriots with Cam Newton sparking Carolina to a 49-15 drubbing of the Arizona Cardinals. The two teams will meet on Feb. 7 in California in the Super Bowl.
3. Is Bloomberg in: Michael Bloomberg is considering a run for president as an independent candidate, according to aides to the former mayor of New York. Bloomberg is said to be troubled by the seeming popularity of Republican candidate Donald Trump, and the rise of Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). The New York Times reported that Bloomberg is developing plans for a possible independent bid.
4. Trump vs. Kelly: Donald Trump, apparently still upset over a pointed question he received in the first Republican debate, is suggesting that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly not be allowed to moderate the next Republican debate, set for Thursday. Trump tweeted that Kelly has a "conflict of interest and bias." In the first debate, Kelly asked Trump about his history of disparaging women he did not like. Trump complained about the question during the debate and has continued to reference the question and Kelly's intentions in asking it.
5. Plane parts: Debris found in Thailand could be part of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, according to those searching for the plane. A large piece of curved metal found by a fisherman in the Nakhon Si Thammarat province may be connected to MH370. The flight disappeared after leaving Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on March 8, 2014 for Beijing, China. There were 239 people on the flight when it mysteriously fell off the radar.
And one more
The three candidates for the Democratic nomination for president will meet Monday night for a town hall meeting in Des Moines, Iowa. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley will answer questions from Iowa Democrats in a CNN-sponsored event. The town hall comes one week before the Iowa caucuses.
