What's that glow: Is a peculiar light pattern nearly 8.6 quadrillion miles from Earth given off by a giant structure built by an alien civilization? That what some on an online astronomy crowdsourcing site are suggesting. While some on the site -- Planet Hunters --say the glow from the area near the star called KIC 8462852 is not a natural phenomenon, it has astronomers talking as they consider just what would cause the play of light from an object some 1,500 light-years away.

Not so much CIA: Wayne Simmons, who has appeared numerous times on the Fox network as an expert on covert operations, was arrested Thursday by federal authorities who claim he lied about being a former CIA operative. Simmons, who said he helped run clandestine operations for the agency, was charged with making false statements, major fraud against the United States and wire fraud.

Lamar Odom's condition: Ex-NBA star Lamar Odom remains in a Las Vegas hospital amid conflicting reports as to his condition. ESPN reported Odom remains on life support, but that doctors have  seen "small progress" in his condition. Other media reports suggest he is unlikely to recover. Odom was found unconscious Tuesday in a Nevada brothel, having used cocaine and taken 10 doses of what's called an herbal Viagra during a stay at the brothel, law enforcement officials said.

Odom is said to have spent a shocking amount on money during his stay at the Nevada brothel. He was charged $75,000.

Arrest on hacking: A man from Kosovo was arrested last month on charges he hacked information about U.S. service members then passed it along to ISIS. Malaysian authorities announced Thursday that the man was arrested in Kuala Lumpur.  He is accused of providing information on U.S. service members after hacking several servers.

Stamos in court: Actor John Stamos will be arraigned Friday on charges he was driving drunk down a Beverly Hills street last June. Stamos, who is best known for his role as Uncle Jesse on the sitcom "Full House," faces a maximum charge of six months in jail if convicted. Over the summer he checked himself into rehab for substance abuse.

Trump, Carson protest: Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson say the will boycott the next GOP debate if organizers don't limit the event to two hours. The two also said in a joint letter that they want the opportunity to give opening and closing statements at the Oct. 28  debate hosted by CNBC.

(Donald Trump tweeted that CNBC had agreed to keep the debate to two hours. No word on whether there will be an opening statment or not.)
