Ford is recalling nearly a half-million sedans because of a potential issue with the fuel tanks.
Here are five things to know about the recall:
1. What cars are affected?
The recall is for 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles built at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant from July 8, 2008 to March 4, 2011, according to Ford.
2. How many vehicles are being recalled?
There are 451,865 vehicles being recalled in the United States, Mexico and Canada, according to Ford.
3. What is the problem?
Some of the cars have a faulty canister purge valve which causes internal pressure changes to the fuel tank. The pressure changes can lead to the tank cracking, leaking and in the right conditions, igniting and causing a fire.
4. Have there been any injuries?
"Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to this condition," the company wrote in a release.
5. How do owners get it fixed?
Ford dealers have an update for the power-train control module software and will have technicians inspect canister purge valves and fuel tanks for leaks. They will replace those components, if necessary, at no cost to the car owner, according to Ford.
