A 14-year-old high school student in Michigan died early Friday morning after she was struck by a car driven by a 16-year-old classmate early Friday morning, according to multiple reports.

The teen, identified in a news release by the Macob County Sheriff's Office as Victoria Cartwright, died at a local hospital after she was struck around 7 a.m. on her way to Dakota High School in Macomb.

Deputies said Victoria was hit by a 2016 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old classmate. The driver and her passenger, also a 16-year-old girl, were also on their way to school.

Neither of the 16-year-old girls were injured or identified.

In a statement released to WWJ, Dakota High School principal Paul Sibley remembered Victoria as a creative and well-liked student.

"Victoria Cartwright will be remembered as a creative, artistic student who had her own unique sense of style," he said. "She was a neat young lady with a kind heart and a bright smile. Victoria was well-liked by her peers and the Dakota faculty. She often talked about her strong family relationships, especially the one she shared with her mother and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. She will be missed by many."

Students wore white in remembrance and family members donned custom shirts with a photo of the high school sophomore at a football game Friday night, WDIV reported.

"Basically, we wanted to put something together – a collage of good memories for the family and for the whole group at the school," Dale Cartwright, Victoria's uncle, told WDIV

The family started a GoFundMe account to raise money for funeral expenses. It has exceeded its $18,500 fundraising goal.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham told the Detroit Free Press that investigators believe that Victoria was hit in an area without crosswalks. It was dark at the time of the accident, he said.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
