A teenager in Ohio working his first day as a lifesaver rescued a 4-year-old boy at the community swimming pool.

Jack Viglianco, 15, was 20 minutes into his shift Thursday when he heard the boy calling for help, The Associated Press reported. The teen jumped into the water and helped the child to safety.

The victim was attending a summer camp field trip, Fox 8 News reported.

The pool manager told Fox 8 News that Viglianco had participated in a five-hour orientation the day before, so he was fully prepared to handle such an emergency.

Viglianco told The Associated Press that being a lifeguard is a dream come true.
