He died in a two-vehicle crash around 1 p.m.

The senior was scheduled to graduate from Andrews High School at 5 p.m

Cumbie was struck and killed by an oncoming Ford F150 when he pulled his car out of a private drive. Cumbie was driving a 4-door Nissan.

SCHP Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins told WMBF that Cumbie was not wearing a seat belt.

"He was just such a gentle, loving soul," AHS Principal Michelle Greene told South Strand News. "He was that kid you could walk by that had an infectious smile, and before you knew it, you had the same smile, too."

Cumbie's mother, Tammy George, was thankful for the outpouring of support her family received.

"I can't even tell you how many people in our community, that we don't even know, came to the wreck and started praying for and taking care of me and my husband," George said. "The outpouring of love and faith from the people in the Big Dam area is overwhelming, and we are so thankful for everyone because that is what is making the pain bearable," she said.

Cumbie was buried June 4.
