The town of New Smyrna Beach is living up to its reputation as the shark-bite capital of the world (PalmBeachPost.com), with a 25-year-old surfer reporting a shark bite on the foot Tuesday morning.
The man was standing about knee-deep in an area of water that that is a common feeding ground for sharks when he was bitten, officials said.
"I just saw him walking back to the car, limping," said witness Justin Resnick. "He was just kind of staring at me like he was in a little bit of pain or something."
Officials said the bite wound was not serious, and the man was not taken to the hospital.
It was the third shark bite of the year in New Smyrna Beach, officials said.
