It may be the biggest movie of the year, if not the decade, but one school says despite it's popularity, one student's "Star Wars" shirt is not allowed.
Colton Southern is a seventh grader in Rosenberg, Texas. He has worn his "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" shirt several times before, but Thursday he was told that it was not permitted because of the district's dress code, KTRK reported.
The shirt features a Storm Trooper holding a weapon and that it's the gun's image that is the issue.
A spokesperson for Lamar Consolidated Independent School District said its handbook spells out the violation of the dress code, specifically listing "symbols oriented toward violence."
Administrators did not reprimand Southern, but did tell him to zip up his jacket. They could have required him to change or be assigned to in-school suspension, KTRK reported.
Colton's father Joe said that the school violated his son's First Amendment rights and that his son would not hurt anyone.
