Alana Goodwin said she noticed an alligator ambling toward traffic as she was driving on US 41 in Fort Myers. Trying to protect it from oncoming cars, she inched her car forward to form a barrier between the gator and the roadway.

Undeterred, the alligator may have decided to try to walk underneath her car, and that’s when it became wedged tightly underneath it.

"We were driving south on 41 when we saw this big gator in the road," motorist Katie Dusanowitz told the Naples Daily News. "We saw a car stop to protect the alligator and then he crawled under her car."

The alligator’s tight spot brought traffic to a standstill as motorists snapped pictures and police rushed to try to keep traffic moving.

Goodwin said she wasn’t scared by the whole ordeal. She’s from Florida, after all.

"I worked for the Sheriff's Office for 20 years so I know this is a regular happenstance," she told the Naples Daily News. "We've had plenty of people with gators under their cars. I knew the officers would respond and everyone would be fine."

The 8-foot 1-inch alligator was removed unharmed by Lee County Domestic Animal Services.
