A silly photo posted online of a man and his girlfriend drew comments neither of them expected.
A friend posted this photo of Ashley Stevens and her boyfriend Christopher Reed, 21, to Reddit.
Christopher was making an overwhelmed face as his girlfriend clutches the bride’s bouquet, which she had just caught. A photo that was meant to make people smile instead attracted hundreds of hateful comments.
Some Redditors mocked Christopher’s body saying he looked like he has Down syndrome. Others were baffled that he had such an attractive girlfriend.
“He’s clearly punching above his weight (and he’s not a tiny looking fella). He should be putting a ring on hr ASAP,” wrote redditor NateGT86.
Borsalty wrote, “I’m not one to judge, maybe he’s a great dude and found an attractive girl who appreciates that… if this dude can land someone like her (again judging looks alone is pretty shallow as it is), then my decent looking 26 year old self is doing this whole thing wrong.”
Stevens quickly took to Facebook, defending her boyfriend and their relationship, saying, “…let me just tell you, I won the jackpot with Christopher. He may not have rock-hard abs like the world tells girls to want in a guy, but really, why does that even matter when you are trying to really finds someone to spend the rest of your life with?”
Christopher told Today.com that the negative comments didn't really bother him either. After getting over the initial surprise, he said he just laughed it off.
Not all comments were nasty. One of the top-rated comments on the post was by Awokenthehive, who wrote, “It’s almost as if there are more to relationships than physical attributes. Imagine that.”
