Arthur Powers may have the worst blizzard 2016 travel story to tell – and he spent the whole time in Jacksonville without seeing any snow.

“I was supposed to leave Thursday, and now it's Sunday,” Powers said.

Powers spent Thursday night sleeping at the airport instead of in his own bed in Detroit.

Since Friday, the former police officer has spent the last two nights at Alice Boito and John Boito's home.

“You can’t get a bigger blessing than this,” Powers said.

The Boitos, a local military family, first saw Powers' story Friday evening on Action News Jax.

Powers' story inspired the Boitos to drive to the airport and offer their home to the complete stranger.

Since Friday, they've cooked together and kept an eye on the changing flights.

“It’s been great. We made a new friend,” Alice Boito said. “It’s been fun,” John Boito said.

It’s a friendship forged from snow and Southern hospitality.

Powers got to zip his bag around noon Sunday to fly out.

With his ticket in hand, Powers said goodbye to his new friends and began his journey home.

“Bye bye now -- take care now,” Powers said.

Powers was able to catch a flight to Detroit Sunday with a layover in North Carolina.
