The post originated on a Reddit thread and has since spread across social media. The accompanying Imgur post has been viewed over 3 million times.

The photo of the cookie resurfaced last week, resulting in numerous social media posts.

Although the cookies have recently been a topic of discussion, Starbucks made a statement to BuzzFeed saying that the the cookies were years old: "In December of 2010, we served smiling polar bear cookies in cozy scarves. They are just one example of our tradition to offer holiday cookies that are festive and delicious. This year you can find snowmen cookies and gingerbread people in holiday sweaters."

The 2015 holiday cookie features a snowman with a blue scarf.
