The new gun was debuted at the Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade show in Las Vegas.
Paul Pluff is with Smith & Wesson, he told Military.com the revolver is "a great gun for a back-up gun in the backcountry or even for hunting if you're going after some pigs or hogs or anything like that."
The company admits revolvers and pistols are now second choice in self-defense because of high-capacity semi-automatic guns.
But they say there is still a place for weapons like this especially if you “like camping where the critters are big enough to eat you.”
The .460 has high-visibility sights and is equipped with a synthetic stock fitted with a shock absorber on the handle.
S&W literature says the gun can also fire Casull .454 rounds and .45 Long Colt ammo.
But if you want one be read for some sticker shock.
The gun will retail for about $1,200.
